So you’re interested in volunteering to help with stewarding at The Gate Arts and Community Centre? Thank you very much!
If you volunteer with us you’ll get the opportunity to see our shows absolutely free of charge as well as getting to know other volunteers and staff here and supporting your local arts and community centre.
When you arrive on the night you will be:
- Met by our duty manager 45 minutes before the show starts (this is the time that is listed on the form on the link below). He or she will tell you a little about the show and its timings (e.g. when the doors will open, what time the interval is, when the show will end and where refreshments will be served).
- Shown where you will be working and told what to do
- Given instructions on what to do if there is an emergency (this normally involves asking people to leave by a particular route in a quick but organised manner)
The normal tasks for stewards are any of the following:
- Greeting on the door and directing them towards reception, the cafe, the toilets or the theatre
- Checking tickets as customers go into the theatre
- Asking people to sit in particular areas of the theatre
- Selling programmes
Before you undertake your first shift you should pop in to get a guided tour of the building with one of our staff to ensure that you know your way around. We also undertake occasional training sessions.
If you’re interested please download and print the list below and return it to us.
