“Timebanking” at The Gate

Here at The Gate we are seeking to enrich people’s lives, connecting and engaging them with one another through a wide range of creative arts and personal development. We believe the awesome concept of Timebanking may be a good tool to help us achieve this and so we have launched Timebanking at The Gate.

What is Timebanking and how does it work?  (No it’s not where The Doctor gets his cash…)

Its a scheme designed to encourage people to engage with their local community. It works by giving you back something in return for time you give to projects volunteering.  Time Credits are earned for each hour you contribute to a menu of community activities.

  • For every hour you put in, you’ll earn 1 Credit (“time in”).
  • You can then use your Credits to attend a variety of recreational activities, events or classes offered free of charge at The Gate or with our local partners (“time out”).
  • Please click for more details of The Gate’s Timebanking Partners, which is where you can get spending your credits!
  • Credits are valued ‘an hour for an hour’:  volunteer for 3 hours and you’ll earn 3 Credits; 3 Credits which you can then spend on 3 hours-worth of activities.

Simple, huh? And extremely cool!  To date our local partners include: Cardiff and Caerphilly Council Leisure Services, Jump!, Boulders, St. David’s Hall, Bowlplex, and others. You can see a full list of our Timebanking Partners if you scroll down – these are the venues and organisations where you can currently claim back your time.

It’s just one way we like to say Thank You.
We are very fortunate to have a number of volunteers who help us out: we’re incredibly appreciative of all the time and energy they put in. Timebanking at The Gate is a way for us to acknowledge and reward this. And we also really hope it’ll help you feel more engaged with all the amazing facilities your local community has to offer.

If you’d like to get involved, or have any questions, please let us know (029) 2048 3344.

*Please note that Time Credits can only be spent where there is ‘excess capacity’ (spare seats). There is a limit to the number of Time Credits each activity can take and Time Credits cannot be used to attend an activity which is already full.
