The Gate is a communty arts centre in the heart of Roath. Our mission is to enrich lives through engagement with arts and culture, with a focus on the individual and our community. We aim to be a home-from-home for residents to explore their innate creativity, facilitating this through a varied programme of arts classes, music and theatre performances, and The Pulpit cafe bar. The Pulpit is used as an exhibition space as well as a meeting place for other community groups and houses other events and activities to bring the community together.
We are also the campus for a full-time performing arts course and we programme our work based on three seasons in a year, broadly in line with term times. Throughout the year we are actively looking to present a wide range of high quality performing arts events for a wide audience.
The programme consists of regular classes and café nights in which our community can engage in arts activates and learn new skills. We also programme performances from local musicians and theatre groups. Due to the schedule of arts activates we run, The Gate is unable to hire its spaces for private functions such as parties or weddings.
We’d love to hear from anyone who is looking to run an arts activity such as a class or community group. For larger events, we plan to finalise our programme up to 6 months in advance. For all enquiries, we ask that an online proposal form is submitted with details of your activity. We can then see how it may fit into our programme of arts and performance.
